4th Grade Science NECAPs
This week, students in grade 4, took the Science NECAP. We scheduled it for after lunch, so they had recess activity and lunch nutrition prior to testing. The test was not easy and it did take a while to complete, but students tried their best and enjoyed some activity when they were finished. On Tuesday and Wednesday the testing was completed individually by answering multiple choice questions, reading graphs and charts and using constructed responses to detail some of the answers. The final day was an inquiry task where students conducted an investigation with a partner and organized data. Once the investigation was complete, they finished the testing individually answering more multiple choice questions and chart reading.
The grade 5/6 class left for Boston on Wednesday morning. About 4:00, they were touring the USS Constitution. It sounded like they were having a wonderful time! They are expected to return to school around 4:00 P.M. We have established a telephone tree so all parents will be contacted before their arrival.
Thank you to all the parents who were involved in the dance last Friday. Although there was light attendance I understand that everyone had a great time.
As the Living History planning continues, more than one adult has asked if they need to dress up to attend the boat trip. Our wish for the students is that they be totally embedded in the turn of the century and wearing the costume is part of the experience. By the same token we do not want to give the impression that anyone needs to invest in a wardrobe of that era. The first step is to make sure no one wears jeans and Tee shirts. Men can wear a dark colored pair of pants with a light collared shirt. A step further might be a hat, but this is certainly up to the individuals. Women did wear long skirts and with the styles of today, it would mean a skirt with a blouse. Again, it does not have to be anything extravagant. Research on the period showed that some added accessories might include fingerless gloves or a fan. Hats were usually decorated with feathers or flowers, but all accessories are optional.
